Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Then Twins Won't be Affected

libfemme ( 05/22/2004, 02:30:39 )

I don't understand why being a rocket scientist disproves genetics as a cause for religiosity. Are you arguing that your pastor has no genes?I am sorry, I was not familiar with your sterotypical high-emotional church-wife, but I take your word for it that there is one. However, I was not trying to paint religiosity as either good or bad. Intelligence is also genetically correlated. So is musical and artistic talent. Most people can be taught the rudimentary skills of those arts but you can't turn everyone into a virtuoso by giving them constant piano lessons. Parents have tried. Some characteristics are innate. The mind is a function of the brain. And the environment affects brain as well. When new memories are made new nerve cells are grown in the brain. The way one learns, the experiences one has, determines the type of connections made between those brain cells. Practice can affect your brain's structure. But that doesn't mean man is born an empty slate upon which anything can be written. There are also some structures which are put down first by genetics.People are born with varying degrees of what we call learning disabilities or mental retardation. They didn't "learn" to do that. The environment didn't make a normal child turn out retarded. If it did then every child in that same environment would come out the same way, and they don't.Why is it that siblings differ in talent, personality, ambition, emotions etc. if environment and family influence is the sole determinant? Brothers and sisters can turn out to be as different as night and day, and yet they have the same environment. Many couples have adopted babies and given them all the love in the world and the child has grown up violent and dangerous. In those cases, research showed that the adopted child was acting more like his biological father, whom he never knew, then his adopted father. Why? How can this be explained if genetics has no influence on personality?Religiosity has a similiar pattern.
