It's too quiet...Is the opposition just getting sneakier?SC ( 08/25/2004, 16:55:17 )Thank you for this and the other links you've posted. Opposition to cloning certainly seems to be weakening, in terms of public opinion. However, it seems to me that attempts to circumvent public opinion have only grown stronger since 2001; legislative opposition has increased, so that some governments are becoming increasingly at odds with the views of their own people. From what I've read, countries like France and Germany that had reservations about cloning didn't want to ban it altogether when they first brought the issue to the United Nations:http://www.scidev.net/Editorials/index.cfm?fuseaction=readEditorials&itemid=85&language=1However, other countries took over and then tried to ban all forms of cloning. Arab countries are now discussing a total ban:http://www.scidev.net/news/index.cfm?fuseaction=readnews&itemid=1421&language=1Argentina is being urged to reverse its therapeutic cloning ban:http://www.scidev.net/News/index.cfm?fuseaction=readNews&itemid=1380&language=1Panama, however, is the only Central American country thus far to pass a law permitting cloning for research purposes. In general, I wonder if the lack of opposition on this site could be giving us a false sense of security. The number of states loosening up on cloning doesn't seem to be greater than the number clamping down, although we're running out of opponents here at humancloning.org.I've tried writing letters to the editors (of news websites) in favor of cloning in the past, but none of them were printed. However, one letter was accepted recently. This also makes me wonder whether it's time to start fighting on other fronts. ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
