In the Judeo-Christian perspective, Adam was supposed to have given humanity "original sin."
Many Christians have interpreted this to be a spiritual damnation on all people, including infants and children.
However (coming from a perspective of Christianity myself), I have come to believe that this is rather a genetic propensity to do wrong, that is in our flesh (or DNA), and perhaps even somewhat triggered by our particular ages, as we come to them.
I SUSPECT this explains why MOST of us do not have propensities to do things like have sex with children: it is not anything our ancestors did.
But most of us ARE tempted at one time or another in our lives to do things like steal, or want things that do not belong to us.
Could this be, at least in part, because we are succombing to the patterns our ancestors set for us, embedded in our DNA?
(Supposedly Adam set a pattern like that, for his offspring.)
Anyway it's just an idea.
