Re: CloningKantele ( 06/13/2003, 21:13:03 )To be more accurate than John John, there are 3 types of cloning; embryo, adult DNA, and theraputic. Embryo cloning is when the gentic material of an embryo is taken from one, and then this same material is placed into another embryo, replacing said embryo's genetic makeup to that of the former. This basically creates a twin, if somebody wanted twins, triplets, etc.Adult DNA cloning is the most common process most people think of when the word "cloning" is mentioned. This is when the DNA of an animal, be it a human or a sheep, is placed into an embryo. The embryo grows with the exact traits that the DNA giver has/had. Although this is the process Dolly the sheep was made by, this process has not yet been tried on humans, as all claims to doing so have been false. Also note that this process usually comes up with countless genetic defects before the process is done correctly. What sort of defects? See my URL below for one example. Finally, note that Dolly the sheep is now dead. It is a great debate to whether or not cloning made Dolly weak in the first place, or if something else befell her. ALso know that this process has been banned in many countries. Finally, theraputic cloning. This is the same process as adult DNA cloning, but this time, stem cells are removed from the egg and this can be used to produce identical tissues of the body, or even whole organs, all identical, which can be transplanted into the DNA giver if he/she/it requires such tissue or an organ. Please note that this kills the embryo in the process, which already raises the red flag for some people with the argument: "That embryo was a living thing, murdered." However, with this process, theoretically, an organ bank could be made, with no more people waiting for transplants, no organ rejection, and no drugs need to be taken after the organ is replaced, like most have to with immuno suppressants.Phew. Got all that? I hope so. Now, the real question you should ask yourself, Doc. Which processes do you think are good, and which ones do you think are bad? I hope this helped you out a little. --- Truly they lie, they talk utter nonsense. ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
