The USA is always on the cutting edge of science but there is more to being a world power than being the first and best. We have to safeguard our interests and maintain global stability, 80 billion dollars were spent on iraq so far. Imagine if we put all of our resources to science! We cannot spend every dime on science though, much of the world depends on us even if they do not wish to admit it. A lot goes on behind the scenes that the public does not know about. You would all be much more grateful if you only knew.
