Monitors use the same technology as TVs: cathode ray tubes, which spray electrons over the cathodium to create color and images. Looking at a monitor can only dammage sight if the refresh rate of the device is too low. For instance if you are in a room with flurescent lighting and the monitors refresh rate is lower than that of the flashing bulb. flurescent lights do not burn like most lights, to save power they flash faster than we notice and a monitors refresh rate is the speed the nozzle sprays electrons over the cathodium. If looking at your monitor hurts your eyes see about replacing it or buying an lcd monitor.
