Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: message for Patrick

My apologies. I am by no means a biblical scholar. I was using that, in part, to illustrate the point that an agnostic would not use god or religion as a basis for argument. the serpent remark was comic relief. To be sure, my belief is not that god was hoping to keep any knowledge from us. I'm afraid my real belief is too inflamatory to express to someone such as yourself while i'm cowering within the anonymity of the internet. You are obviously a courteous, somewhat open-mided individual who does not deserve to hear it. (besides, my philosophy mutates every couple months anyway)I would like to say, however, that religion and any god or gods that may exist are not based on each other. So far as i have been convinced, if you believe it, it's true. If not, it's not. But one's beliefs have no effect on anything outside of their self. ....... I should stop now... before i lose it.Back to cloning, it's as dumb an idea as splitting the atom, if one were to ask me. Sure, it has the potential to do so much good for individual people, but at what expense? Why the hell can't people just be comfortable with the idea that life must end for life to perpetuate. Oh right, that's part of the root of organized religion. In part to explain where we came from, and another to explain what happens when we leave. I guess human nature is to prefer to make things up and believe them blindly than to accept the fact that some things can not, or should not, be known.I read above that someone believes it to be a right to be cloned. I laugh in despair. Well, it's my right to do to my body too, but suicide/euthanasia happens to be illegal. So i get from this that it should be a right to produce more of yourself, but not to end yourself? Whether that end is merciful and that reproduction is frivolous makes no difference. How interesting. So it's conceivable that the indefinite extension of our lives may become compulsory by law. This idea may be a leap but not a very broad one. I mean, in the US, it's legal to end the life of an unwanted baby, which i support, yet the advocation of mastubation as a means of controling unwanted prenancy is taboo. This society is ludicrously backwards. So, for the people who want to live forever, fine. I wish luck. For myself, i'll just keep on living the life i have and thank only myself for enjoying it the best i can, and when i die, i'll look back and smile at the fools doomed to indefinite life here on earth. Ain't i a stinker?
