Re: New Human Cloning Poll

libfemme ( 09/24/2003, 04:04:11 )

Hello Roger. Interesting poll results.Although I think all forms of cloning will eventually be widely available, there will always be some small section of people who will never accept it. Their reasoning is not open to argumentation and therefore won't be swayed by evidence of safety or efficacy.I don't believe that the men who first proposed that cloning be outlawed, i.e. Rudolg Jaenisch and the American Academy of Science, believed it was unsafe either! This redhering of defects due to cloning never came out Clinton's moritorium on federal funding for scientific research came up for review. Jaenisch's employer, MIT, profits directly from tax-supported government grants for research. Janenisch and his fellow academic scientists sold out to the Bush administration's prejudice. In exchange for their help in pursuading the US House of Representatives to pass a bill banning cloning, Jaenisch and his minions received millions in renewed federal funding for stem cell research on university campuses across the nation. Ditto for Wilmut and Roselin, a captive creature of the British government's funding.Reproductive cloning is opposed by primarly conservative Christian, Jewish and Moslem clergy and of course the French who are notoriously irrational anyway.
