Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: cloning and the human being

With all due respect, what difference does the origin of the human race make to this issue, or anything else? Don't misunderstand, the idea that we owe our existence to some sort of cosmic experiment in cloning and colonization is worth exploration but even if it's truth could be proven, how would that change anything today? Like you said, there is no way to know how exactly our species sprang into existence and that has been at the root of the argument since the Scopes trial. It's all a matter of faith.Into the origin discussion: If we were the result of genetic manipulation, where did the original material come from? What i'm getting at is, how could the incredible similarity between the genes of man and chimpanzee be explained? Would it be that either (a) we were the result of the manipulation of chimp DNA, or (b) that the chimp itself was the result of something all together different, which eventually progressed to us? If a, i suppose that would explain rather tidily the inability of paleontologists to find the fabled 'missing link'. If b, well then how far back does it go? Could that mean that all life on earth has its origins somewhere else in the cosmos? Then those cosmic scientists are really the god refered to by so many religions. The creators. I can't help but wonder where those experimentors went for the thousands of years since the dawn of man. Pehaps its the watched pot theory on a cosmic scale. They thought, "we'll get back to them tomorrow" where tomorrow represents some unimaginable length of time to us. Hmm. How long till they return and what will they think when they do? This sounds like theology to me, just dressed up to sound like science fiction. I say that because it has as much basis in fact as any story of creation anyone's ever told me. The theory of evolution was based on the careful observation of nature and a bit of radical thinking. What a can of worms. The difference between man and the rest of the animal kingdom is that we can conjure up these ridiculous questions for which there are no answers. Formulate ideas of right and wrong, moral and immoral, just and unjust. Animals seek to survive by operating according to instinct. Oh, i wish i was a catfish.
