How Far Do You Think?libfemme ( 09/24/2003, 02:41:41 )How far cloning has gone depends upon who you talk to. How far you think it has gone, depends on how educated you are.Do you know what you mean when you say cloning? It covers a number of related procedures. The most advanced form, taking an adult cell and inducing it to turn back its biological clock and become an embryo cell has been done with human skins and no biologist seriously doubts that it is scientifically possible implant such an embryo in a woman's womb. Has an adult cell from a human being been implanted in a woman? No woman has come forward claiming that she was. No baby has been presented for scientific examination to prove it is the genetic twin of an adult. However, I can't imagine why the government would be interested in cloning humans. It still takes a cloned embryo just as long as a recently conceived one to develop into a human being, i.e. 9 months in a womb. And it still would take a cloned baby as long to rearch maturity as a natural child, about 18 to 20 years. That's a long time to feed, educate and wait for mature human being. And when you do you still have one as independent and individual as the original. What would be the point?Owning a clone (Which is impossible. There are laws already against owning people)but say you did. What good would it do you? You could give birth to a natural child now and have as much control over it as you would over a clone. A clone is not obedient.A clone is simply a genetic duplicate. If the original was cantankerous and rebellious, then the clone will be hard to handle too. Save your money and your time.
