Malthus was wrong
libfemme ( 10/02/2003, 08:27:04 )We are talking about the same Malthus, the 18th century English ecnomist who said: "population increases in a geometric ratio, while the means of subsistence increases in an arithmetic ratio." Malthus published An Essay on the Principle of Population in 1789. Where do you get the idea that the amount of food that was produced in England in the horse-drawn plow era of 1789 has grown only arithmetically in the intervening 214 years? Or that the standard of living in the world today has declined since the 18th century?
