The Reasons For Reproductive Cloning

libfemme ( 10/02/2003, 07:56:12 )

The basic reason in favor of reproductive cloning is it is a method for making a baby for people who have no other means. It is a fertility treatment. like invitro fertilization, or intra cytoplasmic sperm injection. There are a minority of people in the world who for one health reason or another cannot conceive or bear to term a baby. Assisted reproduction is the overall term for a number of medical treatments and procedures to help such otherwise infertile people have a baby. A minority of infertile couples cannot even benefit from assisted reproduction because either they can not ovulate or produce viable sperm at all, that is they can't produce an egg or sperm cell. However, they have other kinds of cells. Cells other than sperm and eggs are called somatic cells or body cells. If you take a somatic cell and use that as the basis of an embryo then the procedure is called cloning.Infertile couples who cannot benefit from existing assisted reproductive techniques want to be able to use the new technique of cloning to have what fertile couples have without problems, a biological baby. This website it chock full of essays and explanations for why and how people want to clone. Look around, click on links. The one below will give you some reasons people want to clone humans.
