Illegal Beings: Human Clones

World Ban on Cloning Collapsed

libfemme ( 10/05/2003, 00:50:17 )

The UN's deadline of October 3 has come and gone and it now looks like there will be no worldwide condemnation of cloning. The effort to come up with such a worldwide ban began 2 years ago when France and Germany urged the UN to consider it. However even those two countries have since backed off the effort. Too much is at stake. The ban proposal was then lead by the US and Costa Rica but it is opposed by Great Britian and Japan. In all some 14 countries refused to go along with a UN ban. It looks as if the proposal has been shelved for now.
