The Purpose of Sexlibfemme ( 10/08/2003, 09:00:05 )You don't need sex for reproduction. Simple organisms like one cell bacteria divide by called binary fission or cloning. They make a copy of their DNA and then split in two.So why did Life evolve sex? What does it buy you? What sexual reproduction gives you is variety. Half of your genes from here and half of your genes from there, and you've got a brand new combination of genes.Variety increases the likelihood that one of your progeny will survive should environmental conditions change. And change the environment does. So variety increases the chances that your genetic line won't die out completely. One of your many and various offspring will be the one adapted to this changing environment and therefore pass on your genes.Genetically adapting to the environment is called Evolution. Sexual reproduction speeds up evolution, because it speeds up change in the genes.Because of sexual reproduction one cell organisms could specialize and develop into multicellular organisms. Once that happened fungus, plants and animals developed.Sexual behavior developed after sexual reproduction, as competition began for whose genes you wanted to mix yours with. ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
