Re: Children and opportunitySC ( 10/24/2003, 05:09:48 )Is this a Scottish trait, John? Or maybe you have some Irish background too. I saw a movie once about an early world champion boxer, who I think was called O'Sullivan. He got a head start in his training because some member of his family would always pick a fight with somebody else. As soon as dinner was done, the family would stride outside and beat the crap out of each other.Where did you get this love of picking fights? Did it happen after your grandmother died, or is it just genetic? Maybe she used to protect you from your older siblings? That's what mine used to do, and she was Scottish in ancestry at least. You should know from your own family history why people don't adopt; usually, it's because they want children that are genetically their own. As for my insight into the future, as you call it, it's based on the past. People have always reacted fearfully and negatively to various technological advancements. When the first railroads were being built in Britain, people thought that a train could never go faster than 30 miles per hour because the air would be sucked out of the cars and all the passengers would die.I recently saw a show on Oprah Winfrey about how children who were conceived with donated sperm are now tracking down their donor fathers. Some people are actively keeping in touch with the donors from the beginning now, and the children who have the same donor father are finding each other and organizing family reunions. One of the sperm donors in the audience said something like this: "Such things couldn't have happened twenty years ago because there was a stigma connected to surrogate parenthood. It was like cloning is now." People have been down this road before. ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
