Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: ZAVOS

Randolfe ( 10/28/2003, 04:29:43 )

It is true that we live in a world in which the media never gives reproductive cloning a fair hearing. However, I have had extensive dealings with Dr. Zavos and the media over the past few years. As a result of these experiences, I have come to have a dim view of Dr. Zavos and his method of operation. There is a story today in the Sunday Herald about how the couple who were spokespeople for Dr. Zavos have become disillusioned because he wanted $80,000 to proceed. This is in line with my own experiences in which media people told me Dr. Zavos asked for interview fees of $2,000 to $5,000. In some cases, programs dealing with cloning were killed because of these demands. Brian Alexander, in his new book,"Rapture:How Biotech Became The New Religion", takes a dim view of Dr. Zavos's abilities and dismisses the idea that he is doing anything other than exploiting this issue for fame and fortune. I personally have little faith in those currently claiming to be cloning with the possible exception of Dr. Severino Antinori. I think the HCF should not be too eager to defend this man. When he first approached us, he was looking for financial support. Despite being quite wealthy, he seems to still be more motivated by money than by idealism.
