Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Many good reasons one would want to be cloned

Randolfe ( 10/28/2003, 07:27:15 )

It is so disgustingly smug for those opposed to cloning to twist facts, imply outcomes and make assumptions about those wanting to be cloned. For instance, in one posting, a seemingly reasonable state is made which says:"Supporters of HC do not even know the health hazards of cloning, why would anyone still want to sign a consent form if you do not have all the information about the hazards?" We know all too well the daunting findings in animal cloning. However, informed individuals have the right to make their own reproductive decisions--especially if they are the ones putting their own body at risk in bearing the child and assume responsibility for raising that child even if it were to be born with a disability. That said, I know some who have indeed tried to do just that. Personally, when offerred the opportunity, I declined because of the small likelyhood of success, the chance my later-born twin might be born with a disability and it would have required putting a poor third world woman's body at risk. Also, it would not have been responsible to commence single parenthood when you were unlikely to live long enough to see the child raised to adulthood. " Scientists would not tell you all the inside information so there’s always that hidden information the public would never be allowed to know." If this were the case, then the scientist involved would be guilty of malpractice. Misleading someone is wrong. Helping someone achieve the previously impossible is correct. People want to use cloning to have children. People want to use cloning to have a child with whom they would have a specially close and understanding bond. People want to clone themselves so they "can live on through their children" in the truest sense of the term. People want to clone themselves because they believe they will be "better parents to themselves" than their own parents were to them because they would have a special understanding of their own later-born twin. Skip all that "twins are different" rhetoric. Studies of identical twins separated at birth, who didn't even know each other existed discovered they had much in common when reunited at a much later date. Read the book by C. Lawrence Wright entitled "Twins" put out by Wiley Publishers. Anti-cloning people simply can't bear the findings about the unique and special relationships identical twins, even those separated at birth, share. That is where the real truths about cloning can be found--in the study of identical twins.
