Cons are just "cons"
libfemme ( 11/04/2003, 08:21:16 )All arguments against cloning are not arguments unique to cloning but arguments against some other aspect of society that already exists, i.e. totalitarian government, child abuse etc.Cloning does not add any new risk to the problems we have been battling for years, therefore it should not be stigmatized for things "it" didn't create.If someone abuses a cloned child it is no worse than if someone abuses a natural child. Both are abhorrent and we have ways of combating such abuse now. If the argument is made that cloned because cloned babies could be abused then they should not exist, then the counter argument can be made that natural children should not exist either because they are also vulnerable to being abused. If you apply a draconian standard to one, then you logically have to apply the same standard to the other.The problems people dreg up about cloning, are fears about existing problems that we have without cloning. Cloning can't be blamed for problems that it doesn't create or isn't unique to cloning.What is special about cloning over all other means of making a baby that makes it particularly unacceptable and applies only to cloning? The answer to that of course is..nothing.
