Illegal Beings: Human Clones

shelving the cloning ban

libfemme ( 11/07/2003, 22:34:58 )

I agree that the tide is changing. I think the campaign the antiabortionists put on in regards to the UN members may have backfired. The anti-abortionists came with pictures of aborted fetuses. Since cloning involves undifferentiated cells the fetus stage is irrelevant. Cells used in therapuetic cloning never get to the fetus stage. And cells implanted in a womb would be a wanted pregnancy and therefore not aborted. The fetuus pictures demonstrated how ill informed the anti-cloning camp really was. Also not every country in the world is Christian, and therefore not every country believes the soul enters at the blastocyst stage. The anti-abortionists just highlighted the fact that their opposition to cloning was culturally specific and not universal morality at all.
