17 New Human Stem Cell Lines Made
libfemme ( 11/08/2003, 22:56:11 )While the federal government will not fund research into new human stem cell lines, nothing prevents private money from funding such research.Funding for the 17 new stem cell lines derived from embryos discarded from fertility clinics has been provided by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and The Howard Hughes Institute.The Harvard University scientist who developed the 17 lines was motivated to find a diabetes cure, an illness two of his own children suffer from. He developed the fresh stem cell lines for research use in his own lab and they will be available to the research community next year.
