Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: any refutes for cloning cons??

SC ( 11/12/2003, 06:48:57 )

I have read an article that said the American Cancer Society was controlled by corporations who had a vested interest in seeing that no research was conducted which might find a link between environmental factors and cancer. Oil and chemical companies, for instance, would allegedly make contributions to the Cancer Society which were designed to divert attention away from the sorts of cancer their wastes might be causing. Upon reading this, I might decide to complain to the Cancer Society, and hold back from sending them a donation. Does that mean I am against cancer research? No, I would like to see a cure found for cancer; I would just like to see that my money is being spent in the most efficient manner to accomplish that goal. I object to corruption within a certain organization, not to cancer research itself. If people spoke the same way about cloning, I wouldn't have to be defending it on message boards. However, cloning is blamed for many potential problems which already exist and are independent of it. That's how I interpret the statement "there are no cons to cloning." People aren't given debating assignments on whether or not we should try to cure cancer, even though many potential methods of curing cancer don't work yet, aren't safe, and so on.
