Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Choosing to live

SC ( 10/19/2003, 07:21:02 )

The parables of the New Testament were designed to surprise people. Jesus presented them to people who thought they knew all they needed to know about going to heaven, so they were told in such a way that they would challenge people's preconceptions. His audience might have thought that he wasn't making the right point, too.In the parable I just referred to, people fail to get into heaven because they say just what you did: If we work to be deserving of going to heaven, we will go there. So why, in Jesus' story, do the least "deserving" people go to heaven? It's because deserving isn't enough. You can spend your whole life doing good deeds, working hard and donating to charity and so on, but if you refuse to accept that God gave you free will, and you refuse to use that free will to choose to enter heaven when the opportunity comes, you won't go there. End of story.I think I'm beginning to understand your opposition to cloning. It looks like you don't want to take responsibility for your own life, for your own happiness. You don't want to have to choose how long you will live. Unfortunately, you can't avoid making choices. Even when you come onto this forum and say that we shouldn't have the choice to extend our lives, you are trying to keep that extension from becoming possible. You are still making a choice, even as you try to limit your options and those of others. In Christian belief, Jesus makes it possible for you to have eternal life, but you must choose whether you take it or not. You must, in effect, give eternal life to yourself. There is no way around that. No one else can make that choice for you.
