Illegal Beings: Human Clones

It's in the Mix

libfemme ( 11/27/2003, 05:09:38 )

When a sperm and egg unite molecules in the egg turn the two sets of chromosomes into an embryo. During cloning, we ask the egg to do the same thing with an adult cell instead of a sperm. The consequence has been that cloned embryos bear characteristics of both an embryo and an adult cell. Scientists think that part of the problems seen in clones comes from the culture used to house the cells in the laboratory.Researchers have cultures that work well for embryos and cultures that work well for adult cells. However, we still need to find the optimal culture media for cloned embryos. Once we find out what that is cloning will probably be more successful.Reaserchers at Temple University School of Medicine, University of Utah Health Sciences Center collaborated with Peregrine pharmaceuticals on a project to research the problem.
