Illegal Beings: Human Clones

The World of Genetic Engineering

libfemme ( 11/22/2003, 09:43:22 )

The first genetically engineered pet is coming to your pet store soon. It's a glow in the dark zebrafish and will cost about $5.The fish were originally developed to detect environmental toxins. They fluoresce red in the presence of pollution. But the company that breeds them desided also to sell them as pets. When small children have genetically engineered aquarium fish maybe it will dispell some of their elders hysteria over the future of genetic engineering which is fueling the opposition to cloning. Which, if such people could think, is the opposite of genetic engineering.Genetic engineering means create an individual with genes that have never existed before. Cloning means to create an individual with genes we have already seen and know about. However, when people express fear of cloning, often what they are really describing is genetic engineering.
