Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Reversine (Catchy name)

libfemme ( 12/25/2003, 14:13:02 )

Researchers from The Scripps Research Institute have identified a compound that can turn adult cells back into stem cells. At present that is impossible naturally for humans. Once a cell differentiates (specializes) it works or dies but it never reverts to a stem cell again. Since only stem cells can multiply, having stem cells is vital to repairing or rejuvenating a body part. Scientists are calling this compound that makes adult cells revert, "reversine". It does not sound like the compound is natural to humans but something found in lizards and other self-regenerating amphibians.
