Re: What ethical standard should publishers and authors meet?Great Reads Books LLC ( 12/09/2003, 06:56:56 )Thanks for your remarks. The Jesus Thief is a novel akin to Jurassic Park, not a scientific treatise on cloning. The author began the writing back in 1999 with no thought that it would be taken for anything but science fiction, much less that the book would emerge in the middle of the current controvesy which was fueled by Clonaid claims. Yet these are the kinds of questions interviewers ask.No doubt because the research behind the novel was extensive. And human cloning happens to have made enormous strides along the very lines described in the novel. Two cloning scientists have also found the book worthy of comment perhaps because it isn't as obvious now, as it once was, where science ends in The Jesus Thief and science fiction begins. See their remarks on our updated review site.In short, with The Jesus Thief already printed as Clonaid awakened a human cloning furor, we had two options: burn the book so as not to muddy the scientific waters and waste years of an author's heartfelt work, or allow the novel to advance lay awareness of the issues society must face.We hope we are succeeding in this. For those who already know the answers to these questions, The Jesus Thief simply offers a diversion -- a thinking person's entertainment, as was the original intent. For those who don't know the answers, the book and the interviews offer a bit of education. We feel this can contribute to public awareness.GRB ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
