Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: "Every unenslaved man owns himself," remember?

It is too late. My DNA has already been cloned. I've passed half of it on to my daughter. I must admit I am not the only one who has these genes either. I got them from my mother and father and therefore undoubtedly my brothers and their children have genes identical to mine.Actually, there are billions of people who share one gene or several thousand with me. Genes are very common. My genome may be unique but it is not the sum total of who I am. Cloning my DNA would not get you only part of my personality and none of my experience. I can't imagine what benefit anyone would derive from adopting my clone. As adoption it would be and how many people adopt the number of motherless children there already are?Anyone smart enough, rich enough and determined enough to clone my DNA or Tom Cruise's, wouldn't waste their time in such a pointless exercise.Bringing back extinct animals may be useful, but cloning other people will tell you next to nothing. People are a product of their time and their environment as much as their genes. My legacy, such as it is, is my daughter. I have cloned and freely given her half of my genes. I can no longer lay claim to them.
