Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Acceptable Risk

libfemme ( 01/13/2004, 00:52:39 )

How much certainty must there be before a medical procedure has "offical sanction"? Why does a medical procedure have to have an official sanction at all?Consider - 99.99999% of all humans are conceived by natural sexual reproduction. The results are that approximately 50% of fertilized eggs die in the first few weeks after fertilization due to chromosomal abnormalities.50% That's natural, sexual behavior conceived embryos in the bedrooms of your neighbors and mine. Should this be allowed? Where are the authorities? Why isn't a search being made into the menstrual cycle of every fertile woman in America? How can we tolerate this high a level of risk?50% of embryos conceived have chromosomal abnormalities so harmful that the embryo cannot develop and dies! All sexual behavior should stop until people can prove they can make a healthy embryo with 100% certainty! The trouble is most people haven't a clue how biology works naturally and therefore have no rational basis to judge the morality or efficacy of assisted reproductive techniques such as cloning. The risks in cloning are no higher than they are for any natural birth. The general public just doesn't realize or like to be reminded how dangerous and risky natural birth is. The public doesn't like to be reminded that we are not designed perfectly. It calls into question our religious beliefs as well.
