Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: sick clones

SC ( 01/13/2004, 09:01:27 )

I've tried to post a reply to One and only's, but something isn't working, so I'll post here.Assuming that your reply was directed to me, One and only, I do not believe that clones would be exact duplicates who think the same things at the same time, etc. My reply was meant to say that someone conceived through cloning would not, because of that person's means of conception, become a more or less nurturing person than anyone else. All people, whatever their means of conception, accumulate experiences, learn how to relate to other people, and become more different from each other because of their experiences, not because of the manner in which they were conceived.Nevertheless, I do have to find ways to reply to people who imagine people conceived through cloning developing in various impossible ways. Some people think that people who begin their lives in this way must be destined to become superhuman, or subhuman, or exactly like their twin, or some twisted, horror movie version of their twin, and so on. I try to answer in ways that these people will understand. In the case of the original post on this thread, the bias was toward the "subhuman" or "evil twin" version of prejudice, so in replying, I leaned toward the opposite form of prejudice to try to nudge the poster back toward the view that people who start life as cloned cells will be just plain human. Maybe I shouldn't have "fought fire with fire" in this case; I don't know. It's hard to ever know for sure, because people don't generally tell you if you've done a good job of changing their minds. You may not have liked the way I responded to the original post, but that's to be expected to some extent, since it wasn't your post.
