Re: i need proof on how people can take advantage of human cloningSC ( 01/17/2004, 03:41:36 )It seems bizarre to me that you against cloning but in favor of genetic engineering, when cloning is a much more conservative technology. With cloning, there is no "putting yourself down;" the idea is to keep yourself healthy, but with the same body. Much of your opposition to cloning seems to be based on the principle that it's wrong to destroy one version of oneself so that another one can exist, but that's what genetic engineering would do (to be fair to genetic engineering, I guess I should add that life itself consists of continuously choosing which version of oneself will exist, since we are partly the products of our experiences). I doubt if any medical technology is 90% successful the first time it's tried. I would expect that no one knows what the success rate is until a technology has been tried several times, and even then, it varies with each patient. There's no blanket rule that can be applied to everyone, and in any event, the risks to be weighed before undertaking a medical procedure are something to be decided by the patient, the patient's family, and the physician. If someone is about to die, and only one risky medical procedure has a chance of saving the patient, a much higher level of risk is acceptable than in a case in which a patient just wants blue eyes. ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
