Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Mixing sexes for better science

Randolfe ( 11/07/2003, 09:26:06 )

While researching articles about the religious conservatives who are currently trying to politicize scientific research, I found an article which really surprised me. Apparently, some fertility doctors in Chicago injected male cells into female embryos in research they believed could lead to better treatments or cures for single gene disorders. When they presented their research to the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, they provoked much hostility. Why would anyone object to this research? The embryos were never going to be implanted. What's wrong with creating a mixed male-female embryo if doing so helps you find a cure for a terrible disease?
