libfemme ( 02/09/2004, 03:29:07 )Cloning is a method to have a baby for infertile couples who cannot take advantage of other assisted reproductive methods such as invitro fertilization. In order to use IVF you have to have eggs that can be matured. Women who have no eggs either because they have gone through premature menopause, or because they have had ovarian cancer or other illnesses, cannot benefit from fertility drugs. However, an egg is a cell. If a woman doesn't have any egg cells, she does have other cells. Cloning is a method to take one of her other cells and induce it to develop into an embryo that can be implanted inside her and give birth.For many thousands of infertile couple who desperately want a family, cloning offers the chance to have a baby biologically related to at least one of them. Normal, fertile couples have the same desires but are able to lucky enough not to need medical assistance. Infertile couples have the right to reproduce also and for the same reasons.
