Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Cloning doesn't kill people

libfemme ( 02/12/2004, 23:38:23 )

Cloning to provide new organ does not involve creating a new person. Your body right now grows new tissue all the time to repair and replace. You clone new skin cells, new blood cells, new body cells constantly. When your body stops cloning replacenment cells, you die of what is euphemistically call old age or natural causes. However if your body could remember how to keep on cloning new cells to repair and replace old ones you could keep healthy for many, many decades. Theraputic cloning involves inducing your own cells to clone within your body. It involves inducing your body to make new organs for you while still inside your body.If you take a stem cell out of human body and induce it to make an organ it does not create a entire new organism, only that organ. For instance they are working on creating yards of skin tissue that can be grafted onto burn victims in emergency situations. Or creating blood cells for transfusions on the battle field. It may be possible to have a few "off the shelf" kidneys and livers made also, but by in large it would be easier and more successful to make replacement organs to order. That is when some one needed a new heart, the growth hormone that starts the growing of heart cells would be injected into your system and your own body would start growing the cells inside you.The only way a cloned cell can turned into a new human being instead of a new organ is if it is implanted in a uterus. The only full individuals that will be made by cloning, are those wanted by otherwise infertile couples.Invitro fertilization, by the way, involves fertility drugs to induce a woman's ovaries to release an egg. You need an egg in order to fertilize it in a lab. But some women don't even have eggs. Some have gone through premature menapause, or have had cancer or some other conditions and they have no eggs to fertilize. Or perhaps their husband for similiar reasons cannot make sperm. In that case invitro fertilization cannot help them because they have nothing to fertilize. It is those people who would be interested in cloning. Cloning involves using a different cell from an egg or sperm, and inducing it to become an embryo instead. After the cell became an embryo of a few hundred cells, then it would be implanted just like an embryo from invitro fertilization. Therefore the two procedures would probably be done in the same sort of clinic. Cloning is the way to have a biologically related baby for people who cannot be helped by current invitro methods.
