Re: government funding for human cloning debatelibfemme ( 03/06/2004, 06:00:52 )Anything government funds it also regulates. By not allowing federal grants for research that the NIH doles out to university's regularly, to fund research on human embryonic cells GWB has effectively taken the government out of the issue.Private biotech companies such as Advanced Cell Technology are better able to provide the research, techniques and services that individuals want. By keeping government out of funding research it leaves inquiry free and unfettered by anti-science dogmas.Neither is the money needed. Private Universities, such as Harvard, are already using their vast connections to resources such as private philanthropic foundations and wealthy individuals to fund unrestricted research into stem cells. The field is new and prestigious and there are plenty of private incentives to fund it.Furthermore, this kind of money is being given voluntarily, and people have a right to spend their money as they see fit. Conversely no one should be forced to pay for something they disapprove of. Government has no business taxing people who oppose research on human embryonic cells to pay for research they abhor. Our society is now global and information and research done through out the world is available to American scientists. A free market in exchange of ideas and products benefits the largest number of individuals in the global society.Government is a hinderance and should stay completely out of the question of scientific inquiry. ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
