Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: Hi im doing G.C.S.E's and i need to know about cloning

boundlesslife ( 03/13/2004, 07:05:50 )

At the link below, we see:

“CLONAID™, the first human cloning company, will present some of its results in cloning a human being at the 1st International Bio Expo Japan, taking place July 10-12 in Tokyo. Partial results of our proprietary cloning process as well as the revolutionary cell fusion device developed by our scientific team will be shown.”

What is the real story? We'll only know when genetic tests have been performed by credible authorities! They'll need to show that there are two humans, one already living, and one recently born, who have exactly the same genome. They'll have to do it in such a way that no one can dispute it, that the samples were not switched, that the results were not faked.

This is the kind of thing that will require major institutions to be involved, and risk their reputations that completely unconnected and competent "third parties" did the testing. It would be reasonable to have two or more institutions participate, in the same way that scientists of different universities confirm each others' results. The institutions should be free of political government pressures, such as reductions of their grant dollars if their results were positive. (Reducing grant dollars would be a way of retaliating for the institution's cooperating in a study that could promote the idea that cloning was feasible.)

Until then, there will there no generally accepted “proof”. Conversely, once that happens, we will need to look no further than the huge headlines that will appear in our local papers.

Right now, the excuse for not providing this proof is that it might endanger the legal rights of the “parents” of the new baby. The opposing viewpoint is that it’s all a fake, and that no cloning has been performed.

How will we know? Perhaps the evidence will be presented at the Bio Expo in Japan, per the news release. That might be a place where Clonaid has to “put up or shut up.” Let’s hope that by then, whatever protective measures might have been needed to protect the people concerned are taken care of.

Perhaps Clonaid will relocate the "twin" parent and offspring to Japan for a few years, so they can be present at the Expo, and then await the howls of anguish by U.S. authorities to die down and be resolved in their favor. That would be the perfect place for Clonaid to make it’s big announcement, outside the U.S. where there could be no interference by authorities including judges, radical opponents to cloning, and so forth.

All of us are waiting for that to happen. You’re certainly not the only one who feels that they “need to know the truth”!
