Re: i need a report in the next weekseanofaris ( 03/30/2004, 02:50:13 )The cloning process is often mistaken as a process that creates full grown human beings like a copy machine or a scanner. This is not so. The truth of the matter is that it is born as a regular baby. The DNA from the person or animal being cloned is basically just pulled out of a source such as a skin or hair cell. The DNA is made up of 3,000,000 nucleotides that make up 42 chromosomes and 2 sex chromosomes, which are either XX or XY. TEh next thing needed is an egg doner. The 22 chromosomes are taken out of the egg cell. After the chromosomes are extracted from the egg cell the 42 chromosomes of complete human DNA are injected into the doner egg cell. This cell is now identified as a fertilized egg because it has the full number of chromosomes needed to make a baby and allow it to grow. It is then, typpically, sent into temporary incubation in a petri dish until an embryo forms. Then the embryo is put back into the uterus of the surrogate mother impregnating her just like a test-tube baby. In about 8 and a half to 9 months, assuming there are no complications, the surrogate mother will have a healthy new baby. This baby will be an individual and contrary to popular belief it will not have the memories of the original person and it will have a soul. It will basically be an identical twin of the original person, since it will have the same DNA but different personality and possibly even different ethics. The idea of human cloning tends to scare people and arise ethical problems. Because in the past when we were just trying to figure the whole cloning process out we had several attempts that came out with various genetic mutations or did not live past birth. This problem is more seldome now but it unfortunately does still occur on occasion. There is also a common beliefe that if we make clones we will then use them to harvest organs or practice unauthorized medicine on them. The fact is, because they are just regular people with shared DNA sequence it would be illegal to practice this idea. A clone is just another human being on the planet like you or me but with a little difference. They are really no different from a test tube baby in theory but because they are labeled as "CLONE" they are automatically assumed to have no feelings or thoughts of their own. I am PRO-Cloning because i believe it could allow us to reach a higher scientific status in the world because it would enhance our understanding of genetics, which may possibly some day enable us to choose how our offspring live their lives similar to the concept of the movie "Gattaca". This whole scientific project honestly gives me mixed feelings but i believe the positives outweigh the negatives. Better science equals more knowlege and that would be useful at the moment with the world in its present state. The truth is that we are running out of recources and if we understand cloning a little better we can maybe find a way to clone animals faster or make them bigger so that we may feed more people and escape teh problems of societal overgrowth. That is the idea of cloning to the best of my knowledge at the moment. If you want to know more just ask and i will try to dig some more information up for you ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
