Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: ethical issues of cloning

Suppose you found out you had an identical twin would you still committ suicide? After all an identical twin is in fact someone with 100% identical genes to yours, a clone.Even you are sure you were born a singleton there's still a good chance you started out as a clone in utero. It's called the vanishing twin syndrome. With improved ultrasound technology doctors now have the ability to observe pregnanies from its earliest moments, and guess what they've found? 1/8 of all normal pregnancies start out as twins also. The reason the birth rate for twins is so low is because one twin often dies early on. Twins are observed at 8 weeks, but the smaller of them dies and is reabsorfed. An estimated 24 to 30% of gestations that started out as multiple end up as singleton births. The odds that you too started life as a "clone" are greater than you might have imagined. Still depressed? I mean what a horrible thought. I don't know how you can stand it.http://multiples.about.com/cs/medicalissues/a/vanishingtwin.htm
