Reproductive Cloningscience ( 04/15/2004, 01:48:13 )Dear Mr. Lovell:I am writing you as a concerned student from Oklahoma State University, who is doing a research paper over reproductive cloning. The paper I am writing is consisting of three different points of discussion; the first is how governments from around the world feel about reproductive cloning. The next two are the negative aspects of cloning, and then to wrap up the paper I have chosen to talk about the possible positive aspects of reproductive cloning. Through my research I have found that reproductive cloning has many possible positive impacts. However, with each of these positive impacts come negative disputes. An example would be being able to pick which genes you would like to have in or not have in your child’s gene pool. Now, personally I do not think that anybody should have the power to be able to perform such procedures. I know that this is only one scenario and there are quite possibly endless others, which I am not aware. Therapeutic Cloning I have come to find as a very beneficial scientific finding. Through my research I have found that Therapeutic Cloning will save lives, the research is currently being done with cloned leukemia cells, I believe has enlightened people to the possibilities of Therapeutic Cloning. Also, the research that is being done in the area of Therapeutic Cloning has not received as much resistance when compared to that of Reproductive Cloning. The only time that there was a large resistance was two years ago when Therapeutic Cloning became public and the public found out that scientists were conducting experiments on embryos. In closing, I am proposing that instead of pursuing further research and fighting for the legalization of reproductive cloning, the Cloning Foundation put that time and money towards Therapeutic Cloning. I believe in doing so this would put an end to many of the religious arguments along with increasing the progress that could be made.
