Illegal Beings: Human Clones

New Jersey Stem Cell Project

libfemme ( 04/24/2004, 17:38:15 )

A New Jersey legislator is meeting with drug companies, biotechs, bankers and researchers to start a fund to pay for stem cell research in the state. California is working on a $3 billion state bond to fund stem cell research, including work on embryonic stem cells and Havard University's teaching hospitals are planning to get into the field.Although Presidents Clinton and Bush restricted federal funds supporting research on human embryonic cells, there is nothing to prohibit private money from doing so. And it seems that more and more people are figuring that out.Personally I think it is a good sign. It is better if federal money stays out of the field. With federal money comes too many federal strings. Who wants the people who run the post office to be the leaders of stem cell research?Cloning research will move faster and bolder if it is primarily a private venture, supported by many individuals in all or most states. It will be more closely attuned to the needs of individual patients.
