libfemme ( 05/01/2004, 08:11:34 )The uncared for children of the fertile are not the responsibility of the infertile. It is natural and normal to want your own biologically related children. No one tells fertile couples, you have no right to reproduce. If you really want a child, adopt one to help out the population. If standards apply to people they should apply equally. The only difference between infertile couples and fertile ones is their infertility. They lose none of their rights by being infertile.If, as most people believe, people who happen to be fertile have a right to reproduce, then by the same token, people who happen to need medical assistance have the same right to reproduce. Some people's body's produce insulin naturally. Some people have a metabolic disorder called diabetes. You wouldn't tell the first they have a right to eat, but the second doesn't.The second have the right to seek medical care and purchase insulin for their condition. Some women have trouble delivering their natural babies. In the past such babies often died. Today doctor's can perform a ceasarian section and save the infants life. You wouldn't tell a mother, go ahead and let the baby die and then adopt another child for the good of the world.Everyone has the right to good health. Some people are fortunate and have it. Some people are not. But those who do not should not be prevented from seeking medical care.Infertile is a disease or malfunction like any other malfunction of the body. It deserves the same treatment and care. If a couple wishes to use their own cell to create a baby by cloning, or invitro fertilization, or by natural conception in a womb, it is their business and their right.
