It's not surprising
libfemme ( 05/14/2004, 13:40:47 )You seem absolutely flabbergasted that you exist. But probability means that given enough occurances, i.e. time, the event in question will happen. High odds are not the same thing as no odds. If there is one in a million chance of X happening, then after about million occurances, more or less, X is bound to happen. It may happen only one time, but it happens.When X does occur then it occurs all the way. It is not that 1/millionth of X occurs all the time, but that when X occurs, it occurs completely or not at all. So if there is a 1 in a gazillion chances of life occuring, then eventually, after enough time went by, after enough occurances occurred, sooner or later, life would exist.Life is not an impossibility. It may be an improbability looked at over all of eternity and the vastness of the universe, but and this is the important part IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE.If life can exist, then eventually it will.Maybe not on the first roll or the dice, maybe not on the second. But sooner or later, if it is a possibility it's number will come up. Eternity is a very long time.When life does exist, then YOU can exist. Therefore you will never exist during a time when life cannot exist. Right? By definition you are life. Therefore it is not surprising that you should exist at the very time when this most improbable occurance should take place. If it didn't take place you wouldn't be here to talk about it.The universe may have existed for gazillions of time that we have no way to measure. And during all of that life life did not exist. Therefore you did not exist. And if you didn't exist then you weren't there to marvel at your non-existence.For one brief shining moment we exist. Of course we are here, when we are here! We can't be here when we are not here. So of course we are witnessing that very unlikely, yet possible event, we call reality. That does not prove the existence of God. Only the existence of probablity, your ability to be amazed.Your amazement is a value judgement not an object measurement of anything.
