Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: East of Eden

Literal interpretations of the Noah's flood story have been jointly condemned by both clergymen and scientists as both bad religion and bad science. The Biblical flood, as I see it, is presented as a supernatural event. It had to violate several basic physical laws in order to occur as quickly as it did and on a worldwide scale. That doesn't mean it didn't happen; if it happened over the whole world to the depth of Mount Ararat in 40 days and nights, it just didn't happen in any way that we can understand or explain by scientific means. That also implies that there doesn't have to be evidence for it. Either you have faith or you don't; I consider it a sign of weakness of faith if you have to go around trying to "prove" that your religion is better than someone else's.The spiritually important thing about the flood story isn't the shape of the continents; it's that people's faith in God was tested, some passed the test, and they got a second chance. That's probably why the 40 day and 40 night figures are used; 40 is a holy number associated with trials of faith (Jesus being tempted for 40 days, the Israelites wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, etc.).If the Biblical flood story were judged the same way you judge Mormons and Muslims, it would be considered inferior. It's one story of many, and it's a revised version of older flood stories. If it's a story based on a less spectacular flood, there have also been at least three different places proposed as the location for the Biblical flood alone: the Black Sea, the Persian Gulf, and a plateau mentioned in my Eden link.
