Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Nature vs Nurture

libfemme ( 05/27/2004, 06:57:05 )

As I was saying....Environment and genetics have an affect on personality and behavioral traits. A recent study of children and mothers in poor household in England and Wales says that Love and Genes Can Beat Poverty. The study looked at identical and fraternal twins. Identical twins share all the same genes. Fraternal twins share only half like any other sibling. Did the environment hold back all siblings equally?According to the study It showed that genetic makeup does play a role in the ability of children to rise above their poverty and not suffer behavioral or cognitive setbacks, but it was not the whole answer. "The warmth, mental stimulation and interest that parents pay toward their young children can make a big difference in their children's lives," Kim-Cohen said. Yes, even if a child has a genetic prediposition toward behavioral or cognitive problems, that doesn't mean he shouldn't be taught to make the most of his abilities. Having a genetic predisposition does not mean we give up. And you never know just how much any particular child can achieve. "The main point of the research is that neither genes nor poverty can determine a child's fate," Kim-Cohen said. I agree. You can't ignore one or the other. You have to take them both in to consideration, and hopefully change the one or both that needs changing.
