libfemme ( 06/03/2004, 09:32:35 )A two-year-old girl got a stem cell transplant 40 days ago at Duke University Medical Center. The child suffers from Sanfilippo syndrome, the absence of an enzyme critical in building connective tissue.Apparently the procedure has so far been a success. The child's body accepted all the donor cells.The family raised over $140,000 to have the procedure but the state medicaid program has agreed to pay the rest of the bill, which is expected to be upwards of a million dollars.
