Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Brits and Aussies invest in Therapuetic cloning

libfemme ( 06/03/2004, 09:54:55 )

UK Research Councils have awarded grants to 57 new stem cell research projects. The largest of the grants is a 1.5 million euro investment for human embryonic stem cell research at Sheffield University. http://dbs.cordis.lu/cgi-bin/srchidadb?CALLER=NHP_EN_NEWS&ACTION=D&SESSION=&RCN=EN_RCN_ID:22100 Meanwhile the Australian National Stem Cell Centre received an US$ 55 million from the Australian Government. The ANSCC is making a presentation to U.S. biotech investors and entrepreneurs this week at the Boston in the hopes of raising even more money. And in the UN, Australian scientists have joined scientists from the United States, South Korea and Britain to press the United Nations not to ban stem cell research on human embryos. http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/s1121125.htmThat means the issue of a ban on cloning is likely to come up again in the UN in September and forces are gathering in opposition to George Bush's stand and that of the Catholic countries.
