Senate Letter
libfemme ( 06/03/2004, 09:39:35 )A letter is now circulating among US Senators urging President Bush to reverse his stand on federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. So far 56 senators have signed the letter. It mirrors a similiar letter already circulated among US House of Representatives.The letters indicate the change in public opposition to therapuetic cloning at least since 2001 when the House, but not the Senate, voted for a total ban on all human cloning.The change has come about because groups representing victims of diseases that might be helped by the research -- such as Parkinson's or juvenile diabetes -- have been aggressively lobbying Congress.It may take that as well before reproductive cloning becomes a reality in the US some day.
