Some questions and answersRandolfe ( 06/05/2004, 11:04:44 )I think it is a shame that those running this site have removed several "example interviews" that they had earlier where I answered various questions from students, etc.I usually try to answer questions sent to me (within reason). However, I sometimes just send a standard letter with information and links.I would think that the folks running this site, who accepted my regisnation as spokesperson because I insisted on denouncing the fraudulent Raelians before Congress in 2001, would at least have a form letter of links to send to inquiring students. In any event, I will share with you my answers to the student who emailed me today. Be forewarned, I am not able to answer every set of questions. But I always send a form letter with links to information whenever I receive such requests.Randolfe H. Wicker rhwicker@optonline.net Here is the latest interview: I will answer your questions by typing my answers in bold type. Founder, Clone Rights United Front, www.clonerights.com Spokesperson, Reproductive Cloning Network, www.reproductivecloning.net Advisor, The Immortality Institute, www.imminst.org Special Correspondent, www.stemcellsclub.com email: rhwicker@optonline.net phone: 201-656-3280 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Henry TKS" To: Sent: Friday, June 04, 2004 3:30 PM Subject: Cloning research Dear Doctor, My name is Henry and I am currently a student enrolled in Taylor's College in Malaysia doing a research paper on "Cloning". I would be grateful if you could spend a few minutes of your time to answer the question below. Your cooperation is truly appreciate. 1)Who or what inspired your interest in cloning? how long have you been interested?See "Interview with a Human Cloning Activist" a few stories down on the opening page of www.clonerights.com 2) Do you believe that the world should "dig" as deep as it can into cloning, or should society take it in slowly? Why?Realistically, society should proceed cautiously. However, since this is an emotional issue, it will be up to those "who believe" to get reproductive cloning to be a reality. These ideas as detailed in the interview with me, under "interviews" down the right side of the opening page at www.stemcellsclub.com 3) I have researched and found that there are different subcategories of cloning including Therapuedic cloning. what are some of the benefits of Therapuedic cloning that spring to mind? The possibilities of therapeutic cloning are endless. Therapeutic cloning, the use of stem cell cultures created by cloning technology, is the most promising frontier of medical research in the world today. The promise of "therapeutic cloning" greatly exceeds taht of reproductiver cloning. They are two sides of the same coin as I explained in the February issue of US News& World Report. 4) How long do you think it will take the majority of the world to accept cloning (if at all)Like IVF, cloning will only be accepted after it is a matter of fact, after it has been proven to be possible. 5) In 1996, a sheep had been successfully cloned by Scottish scientists at the Roslin Institute. What were you sentiments at the time this event in cloning history had occured? This event was seminal in getting me involved with the cause of reproductive cloning. See the interview referenced earlier. 6) what are you views on the ethicality of reproductive cloning? Should coulples that have a risk for having a child with a heriditary disease be able to clone one of the partners?Absolutely. In fact, I wrote Stephen Hawking, who suffers from ALS, urging him to declare his interest in cloning himself. He has a disability but has been a great contributor to human life. If you read Lori Andrews' book "The Clone Age", you will discover that disabled people have a right to be born as well as those who are not disabled. 7) In the media, cloning has been depicted as a way to make a multitude of clones with "desired traits" for some purpose relating to world dominanceA bunch of nonsense. This is the "poison" that has prevented this discussion from really entering the public arena. Everyone thinks of "Brave New World" of the movie "Boys of Brazil". Both are fictional projections. Both are utter nonsense. Both have dominated this issue much more than they should have. . Do you believe the media has poisened the minds of people to believe that this is what lies in store for cloning if it is allowed to be further investigated? Or that people are just taking movies too seriously? The media is nothing more than an extension of the "public mind" with all of its falacies and misconceptions. Yes, people are treating science fiction movies as if they were potents of real events. The media jumped on the opportunity to cover the Raelians (frauds exploiting this issue) because they gave them an "easy story" which made anyone advocating human cloning look ridiculous. 8) Finally what is one specific thing that you wish will happen through cloning knowledge?I would hope that we would understand the secrets of aging, what makes us all grow old, get sick and ultimately die. I have joined the Immortality Institute www.imminst.org which believes we should aspire to eternal or greatly extended lifetimes through biotechnology. I would hope that science would enable me to live much longer, even forever, and to live to that advanced age looking and feeling and having the energy that I had at the age of twenty years of age. Hope you can reply as soon as posible.thank you. _________________________________________________________________ Are you in love? Find a date on MSN Personals http://match.msn.com.my/I don't believe in internet dating. The internet is filled with phonies and frauds. I am a real person coming from a real place. I have made good friends over the internet but I would never become involved in 'dating games" there. (I know this is a frivolous answer to a question that is not one you asked but felt like answering it anyway.Cloningly yours, For eternal life,Randolfe Wicker ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
