Pancreas Transplantslibfemme ( 08/11/2004, 10:04:03 )A major breakthrough in diabetes called islet cell transplantation appears to have cured one woman. Three years ago, a 34 year old woman with type 2 diabetes had an islet cell transplant. Great news, except islet cell transplants come from harvesting donated pancreas, and that can only happen with some healthy person dies from a violent or accidental death. Hopefully we are trying to reduce deaths due to crimes or accidents, which is good for the people who now die from those causes. But it also means there are fewer organs donated for transplants. In order for islet cell transplant to work now, someone has to die. Wouldn't it be better if new cells could be induced to create islet cells in the lab for transplant? Cells are not people. People are important not cells. There is a great lack of understanding of basic biology among most of the general public and it's time we all get educated. Lives are at stake. Ignorance is not bliss. It's death. ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
