Illegal Beings: Human Clones

An interesting argument,

Laburnum ( 09/11/2004, 13:07:12 )

albeit inherently flawed. Locke was speaking of government, and while I believe there are many fundamental rights to which a pose of infringement is egregious, the issue of cloning cannot be seen as the worse so in a already overpopulated world. While you may take the argument that wherefore, sterilization may take the same root. I say the demarcations of governship may be taken but a degree lower. Man has rights to his own cells. When a cluster of cells stops being of it's originator, but something individual is hard to define. Should that person have any less right then his/her creator to ownership of self? I am for theraputic cloning, so long as there is consent, or until we better know when or even if there is a point at which the latter can be consigned to pre-birth. I abhor the notion of "correcting" defects at such a stage if those defects are "non-fatal". If people have disabilities, particularly mental ones, it is because someone needs to carry that genetic burden. In a better society such people would be better taken care of, not genetically made extinct.
