Sociological IssuesVoxaroth ( 10/04/2004, 22:01:27 )I am a Biology student at the University of Southern Maine. The study of genomics, as well as the concepts and ethics surrounding new breakthroughs in technology is a highly controversial topic. None the less, we discuss it greatly as to become aware to every possibility. As such, the benefits of cloning are obviously many. However, from a sociological perspective, we as a society aren't factoring in how this will change the world scheme as a whole. WE may not have discriminatory feelings for clones, but we are DREAMING if we think the world will share our veiws. As lofty a goal as it is, with the best of intentions, human cloning will cause a segregation similar to how the old world viewed "lesser races". Thinking this won't be a problem is a very enthocentric point of veiw on our part. As usual, we're seeing the world as Americans, how we feel the rest of the globe will as well. There is no doubt in my mind that cloning is the future. HOWEVER.... Today... We ought to spend more time understanding our own world culture than the finer workings of the human genome.Just a thought.... ![]() This Message is being posted for educational purposes, as well as for comment and criticism, by the visitors to the HumanCloning.org Foundation website (www.HumanCloning.org ).
